I was very happy to be able to spend a couple of days here in Lich with Gudrun and her husband Hans. Gudrun and I met about 30 years ago at a campsite in New Zealand, lost contact and then Gudrun found me again last year. Fantastic how from small moments can come lasting friendships even when one lives ar the other end of the world!
Lich is only a tiny place but coincidentally Dennis was born here, though I did not see any monuments marking this special moment. 😀
The old town is particularly picturesque with its gorgeous , well- preserved timbered buildings dating back many centuries. I will certainly miss places like this when I return to NZ but have plenty of photos to remind me!
The photo above is the main street . It is nearly pedestrian, with just occasional cars passing by. There are few shops here so it is a very sleepy and restful place.
I really liked the writing on this house. 'Jeden Tag ist ein Lehrer, der lehrt was kein anderer Tag lehrt'. Every day is a teacher, which teaches what no other day teaches.
'Es ist keine Villa, es ist nur ein Haus, doch wir sind zufrieden und das macht es aus'. This is no villa , just a house, yet we are satisfied and that is what counts.
In the evening as we were sitting on the balcony having an aperitive , there were two huge explosions. Things shook a little and we were totally unsure what had happened. Later we read that a fighter plane had illegally broken the sound barrier over the area we were in!
Now I am on the way back to Zurich where I will have a few days before going to Wales .
Today is Vera's funeral. My father's secretary from the age of 14 , living with us and always there for us when our parents were out or away, later mum's best friend , she was certainly a very important part of the Harris extended family. I am so sad not to be there to farewell her with my sisters but happy to have had some time with her in June.
