Once again I found myself on a boat, but this time just a short one hour trip to the car free nature reserve of Hiddensee. Lots of fabulously robust horses with the job of ferrying many of the tourists around.
Despite poor forecasts, we were once again very lucky with the weather. leaving Straphode by ferry I once more enjoyed the wonderful clouds and light on the water. Magical, even after so many fantastic sights at sea!
After a visit to the islands 22 m high lighthouse
with fantastic views all around ( and unfortunately a lot of seemingly hungry mosquitoes😁), we set off to Vitte the next twn on the island. There was a long white sandy beach and another chance to paddle in the very calm, but chilly water
The promenade next to the beach was gorgeous. There were so many different shrubs growing in the dunes and the view along the beach was fantastic, especially with the ominous dark clouds looming , but never shedding any rain!
Had I have read the information about this area beforehand, I would not have the following photo. I read afterwards that there are three different types of snakes, one poisonous, on the island , mostly living in the dunes😧. Oops!
It was a brilliantly colourful garden!
Once more nature 's artistic talents could well be appreciated. I loved how this plant had spread tself out over the pristinewhite sand.
As we got off the ferry in the evening we passed another Albatros ,somewhat smaller than the MS Albatros!
