So, more dreams were quickly to come true today. I had also read about the Salt Gardens of Trapani and en route to Favignana island we dropped in to visit them - not literally of course!
What a lovely area - completely different landscape from anything else we had seen in Sicily. In fact, we are now totally aware just how wonderfully diverse this relatively small island is. The windmills I had fallen in love with in my Italian magazine, were just as beautiful as I had imagined and our visit to the salt museum in Nubia explained why they are so important, though Dennis and I struggled to understand the Italian English spoken at breakneck speed! Italian may have been easier. It is a fascinating place indeed and so pretty. Apparently the ponds are full of flamingos at their breeding times in spring and the whole area is a protected WWF region.
Next stop Favignana, one of the aegadi islands, less known than the Aeoli islands. This does not stop the population growing by twenty times in the summer months. It must be ghastly then, but now it is amazing. We even had half board at a four star hotel for just 67 euros. Fantastic.
We spent the afternoon lazing on a nearby beach and enjoying the fantastically clear water with I guess a temperature of about 21 degrees. It was blissful!
In front of the hotel the rocks were fabulous
Inside the hotel, we were treated to a beautifully presented four course meal. Delicious!
Poor Dennis spent the evening opposite this statue! Enough to give you bad dreams😐
