What a beautifully restful place we stayed in, with fantastic grounds
And extremely cute three month old kittens. They were a huge attraction, needless to say!
The rooms were spacious, great breakfast and we also got to know Simon and anastasia from Moscow asnd ended up going for dinner with them in a local restaurant. Great food but too much, and too much cheese on the huge pizzas. Apparently this is typical Sicilian. One of the big joys of staying at small Bed abd breakfasts is that you meet other people and have time to get to know them.in Cefalu Sandra and Fabian from Bordeau. I am sure I will visit them! I love this ease of contact.
Beautiful gardens and very friendly animals. It was hard to leave them!
The owner of Casablanca recommended a museum, Adione, to us as well as Villa Romana, so off we set following signs. Poor Dennis, after what seemed a relatively easy drive compared to the day before, we arrived in the village of Adione and followed the signs. The streets got narrower and narrower, the parking worse and worse and the corners tighter and tighter. Just as we thought we had nearly arrived we reached such a narrow turn, in fact a right angle, where we had to give up. Nobody else was attempting it either. The streets were definitely not made for medium sized or bigger cars! Later we had another pretty tricky drive through a hillside town. The streets were so steep and narrow I cant believe we made it. Dennis was amazingly calm. I have great respect!
Luckily, the way to Villa Romana, though narrowish and very windy, posed few problems, and we even had a chance to appreciate the lovely scenery.
The Villa was unbelievable. It has been recently renovated, but much of what we saw was original. Amazing. It was like photos of that time through mosaics and paintings.
Above , the view of the baths from outside, and here below the inside. We figured this looked like a good place to party!
One room, a servant's area was also very interesting. They call the mosaics, the bikini girls, but in fact they depicted sportswear. Beach volleyball , gymnastics and track and field attire hasn't changed much, has it?
The drive to Agrigento looked easy on the map, but it took ages because of roadworks almost the entire way. Poor Dennis, it was really frustrating. Speed limits varied all the time from 10 to 90. I don't think we ever hit the open road limit. As Dennis said, speed limits seem to be decoration rather than serving a real purpose.
We had a great evening out, with delicious meal followed by drinks at a really friendly local bar where we chatted a lot to some local guys. We ended up being offered risotto and limoncello! Very nice but once again we had eaten too much😐
