Erice and Castellmare del Golfo

I was rather concerned about our trip back as strong winds were forecast. It certainly was not a very pleasant half hour on the hydrofoil as the winds hit the side of the boat, but luckily we didn't have far to go😑. If we had been any later leaving, we may have found that our boat had been cancelled.
Our first stop was the very beautiful medieval city of Erice, perched on a mountain 450 metres above sealevel. It was a brilliant road, very winding but wide enough to feel very safe , and with absolutely breathtaking views.
From the top the views were of course equally stunning.

The narrow cobbled streets were fabulous and most were pedestrian zones, though you do have to watch for mopeds everywhere you go in Italy / Sicily.

The town was certainly well fortified, not only due to its situation!

After we had been looking around for quite some time for a not too touristy place to eat, an old local man recommended the most fantastic, tiny, little family- run restaurant. We ate and were treated like kings. Marvelous.

They even had 46 varieties of tea 😄 incredible!

Then, down to the sea on an equally stunning road and a brief stop at Castellmare, a lovely place.

The end of a wonderful road trip, but luckily we still had two car- free nights in Palermo to look forward to!
